Titan of the Month August 2022 – Josh Greaver

Josh Greaver

I’m Josh Greaver, 43 years old. I live in Phoenix, MD with my wife and two sons, ages 11 and 15. I work in commercial underwriting for a global trade credit insurance company in Owings Mills.

I love nature and being outdoors, like camping, hiking, fishing, and biking.

How did you discover CrossFit?

About 10 years ago, I was looking for a boost in my workout routine and wanted something new. I mostly went to more traditional gyms up until this point. I would use cardio equipment and lift weights a bit on my own. But I got bored with it. A friend at the time suggested CrossFit. So, I joined the original Titan location on Deerco Rd. in Timonium.  I was quickly hooked by the variety of the routines and the vibe of the gym.

Why did you continue to CrossFit?

I’m drawn by the community sense of the gym and how the challenging-workouts help me unwind from work and life stress. I feel like I am always in a better state of mind after leaving the gym.

What changes have you noticed since starting CrossFit?

CrossFit has helped me achieve and maintain better overall, balanced strength — I have increased endurance, mobility, and agility. The workouts also focus on and train muscles I’d otherwise not think about, which I appreciate.

What is your favorite part of CrossFit?

The end of the workout – Fist bumps and a nice sense of accomplishment 🙂

What achievement or PR are you most proud of, and what is the next goal your working towards?

While I started CrossFit 10 years ago, I took a multi-year break to run triathlons. I started back up on my 40th birthday. And while I used to be able to do ring muscle-ups, I’m most proud of working back up to being able to do them again.

What advice would you give to someone who is New Or Considering Trying CrossFit?

I would say be patient and embrace the coaching. I’ve learned so much from Titan coaches and other athletes over the years. And, enjoy the progressions along the way. The first time you do a new movement or hit a new PR is fun.
