Titan of the Month November 2022 – Stacey Parson

What led you to try CrossFit?

I had been long distance running for a few years and wanted to try something more whole-body focused. I was also a few months sober and looking for something healthy to put my
energy into. A friend suggested it, and I decided it couldn’t hurt to give it a try.

Why did you continue to CrossFit?

There are so many reasons!  My husband Chad and I both like CrossFit and can do it together.  I love cheering other people on to accomplish things they didn’t think they could and the way other members do the same for me. The variety of workouts and movements keeps me from getting bored. I get to turn off all the overthinking and worrying I tend to do for an hour, because CrossFit requires me to focus on what I’m doing in the moment.  I’m in the best shape of my life.

Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey

I have never considered myself to be athletic.  I was the kid in gym class always picked last and failing most. There were a lot of things in the fitness realm I just assumed I would NEVER do. Now I just keep working, celebrating victories along the way and reminding myself that lots of small efforts over time turn into big improvements. I’ve learned that failures and setbacks are frustrating at the time, but make the successes that much sweeter.

Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face

It’s really hard to pick just one.  Most of my favorites involve seeing someone achieve a personal best or pushing through a fear to do something I didn’t think I could. The most recent one was climbing to the top of the rope.

What are you proud of and why?

The biggest one is being able to clean over 100#, because it involves years of small steps, continuing to work on technique and strength, sometimes feeling like I wasn’t even making progress.

What’s your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?

Get started and then don’t look back! Ask questions!  Show up consistently.   Do all the things — even the ones that aren’t your favorites. Don’t worry about what “everyone else” can do.  Celebrate your own journey.
