I live in Parkville, MD with my fiancé Alex and our cat Bean. I work as a lab technician at EA Engineering, Science, and Technology. I like to garden, bake, bike ride, and of course workout at Titan!
What led you to try CrossFit?
I have always been an active person. I played field hockey, volleyball, and ran track throughout middle and high school. When I went to college I signed up for a commercial gym and I would use YouTube to do workouts along with an instructor (my favorite being Sydney Cummings). I also tried out jujitsu and stuck with that for about a year. I was looking for a new way to stay active and I looked up gyms near me. I had heard about CrossFit and thought I would give it a try!
Why do you continue to CrossFit?
I have continued to CrossFit because it has been the best form of exercise I have ever done. I love all the aspects of CrossFit at Titan…the workouts, the coaches, all the members, and the atmosphere are all incredible. CrossFit has increased my confidence in ways I never knew it would.
Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey
My attitude towards health and fitness has shifted from being a chore to being something I love and thrive off of. CrossFit has become a part of my daily routine that makes me happier and I definitely can’t live without it! I use CrossFit for my mental and physical health and I absolutely love coming into the gym each day.
Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face
One memorable CrossFit moment that puts a smile on my face was when I was attempting a personal record for bench press and my friends were cheering me on and yelling as I pressed up the barbell. I love how encouraging everyone is in the CrossFit community!
What are you proud of and why?
I am proud of my snatch form and recent PR. I used to fear the snatch movement, but now it’s one of my favorites and I want to continue to improve it! A special thanks to Coach Spin and Coach Nicole for all their help in the past three lifting classes.
What’s your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?
My advice would be to believe in yourself! I was nervous to start CrossFit because I thought that everyone would be better than me, but that’s just a crazy way to think. Everyone starts somewhere and the only way to get better is to put in the time. It’s going to be hard at times but, it’s extremely rewarding.
Why the coaches chose Kayla as Titan of the month
Kayla has stepped up her commitment the last few months. She never missed a day of the last Strength Initiative. She continues to train and prepare for Festivus later this month. Her focus when in the gym is to learn and better herself as an athlete. Kayla is kind, humble, hardworking, coachable, consistent and wonderful to be around.
As coaches it is rewarding to be part of the lives of athletes like Kayla. We’ve watched her gain confidence and come out of her shell since beginning her journey with us. She was once timid about trying new movements. Now she jumps right in and tries anything her coaches suggest. Good work Kayla! We know you will continue to improve. We loving having you here at Titan.
