Debbie Moy, Titan of The Month, April 2025

Hi, I'm Debbie! I am proud to be a long time member at Titan CrossFit. I am married with one daughter and have one adorable French Bulldog (Milo) who is a complete maniac. He is the son I never knew I wanted. I grew up in Baltimore and have a slight obsession with city living. I work as a certified alcohol and drug counselor at an inpatient facility. In my free time I love to travel with my friends and family.

Fact about self: I am a recovering drug addict with 12 years clean.

Favorite movie: Pretty Women

What led you to try CrossFit?

I was just getting clean and started going to the gym regularly. I found myself getting bored and distracted easily. My husband (then boyfriend) got me a 3 month membership to Titan CrossFit for Christmas (best gift I ever received). I have been a member ever since.

Why do you continue to CrossFit?

It’s my therapy! It’s a way for me to reduce stress and clear my mind. I love the community feel and the push and encouragement from other members. I moved to Baltimore City 2 years ago and was contemplating on if I was going to stay at Titan or have to find a new gym closer to my house. I decided to stay committed to Titan and drive 35 mins to the 5:30am class. What I have realized is that there is no better way to start a beautiful day than with a WOD and the rooster crew. Also, I must give a shout out to my accountability coach and workout partner Willie Brown who often switches his workout times so we can WOD together. Sometimes I need that extra accountability.

What I know is that Titan CrossFit is home

Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey.

My attitude has evolved and changed throughout the years. I used to have a very unhealthy relationship with food and would try to limit my food intake having minimum results and always feeling sluggish. I have worked really hard to build a healthy relationship with food and allow myself to take days off at the gym. I have tried different diets throughout the years and was introduced to counting macros. It is easy for me to manage into my daily life and taught me the importance of fueling my body.

Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face.

It was a few years ago at Friday Night Lights. Dave Short was judging me and it was the first time wall walks were introduced in the Open. I was no-repped multiple times and I just stopped the workout. I went to my car and cried because I was so disappointed in myself. Today, I can laugh about it realizing that I can set unrealistic expectations of myself. Another great memory is when I finally learned DU’s and Rose let me try out her rope, I described it as “magical” it puts a smile on my face thinking of how excited this jump rope made me feel.

What are you proud of and why?

I think I am most proud of the commitment I have made to better myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. CrossFit checks these boxes for me. I destroyed my life for years injecting drugs into my body having no regard for the damage I was causing. CrossFit has assisted me in making amends to myself and has helped to keep me motivated in my journey.

What's your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?

Just try it!. What do you have to lose? I will never forget walking in day one and feeling so intimidated and scared. I am so happy I did not let my fears consume me and had the ability to walk into Titan. I promise you will have no regrets!

Why the coaches chose Debbie as Titan of the month:

Deb has been a fixture here at Titan since most of us can remember. She’s down to earth, welcoming, dedicated, and consistent. Deb is an incredible athlete. She’s fast, and makes cardio look effortless. Despite the fact that she is a seasoned CrossFit athlete, Deb is still very open and receptive to coaching advice. She supports the community in many ways, including cheering on Titans in the gym and at team competitions and other community events outside of the gym. Deb is always checking in with people to see what is happening in their lives. She channels her energy into building strength and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Her journey from addiction to wellness is inspirational. We’re honored to count Deb among Titan’s very best.
